A02.3.04.001 Cavea thoracis The term compages thoracis was introduced in the fourth edition of Nomina Anatomica as "a new term to denote the thoracic skeleton" (footnote 34, page A 28). However, it has not received wide acceptance and the appropriate term is cavea - a cage, rather than the previous cavum - a cavity.
A02.3.04.002 Cavitas thoracis Because this entry is referenced in chapter 7, the two entries for this entity are made identical by adding cavitas thoracica as a Latin official synonym and deleting thorax (English official synonym in chapter 7) as it is not an exact synonym.
A02.3.04.003 Apertura thoracis superior The terms "thoracic inlet" and "thoracic outlet" have been used differently by clinicians. Thus, the thoracic outlet syndrome refers to the thoracic inlet of this terminology.
A02.3.04.004 Apertura thoracis inferior The terms "thoracic inlet" and "thoracic outlet" have been used differently by clinicians. Thus, the thoracic outlet syndrome refers to the thoracic inlet of this terminology.
